More Details:

This captivating ballet has something for everyone: drama, romance, comedy and, of course, magic. Artistic Director Gregg Saulnier says he is “staging this production to be more true to the original ‘script’ of the Prokofiev score.” Mr. Saulnier’s background with the Cincinnati Ballet, both as a dancer and as Director of the Otto M. Budig Academy, brings a fresh vision and energy to the choreography.

The title role of Cinderella is danced by 14-year-old prodigy, Dara Holmes. Ms. Holmes, who trains locally at the Wilmington School of Ballet, is a nationally recognized ballerina, who has been offered full scholarships to the American Ballet Theater and the School of American Ballet in New York.

The ballroom scene of Cinderella will be danced to live music performed by the Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra, led by Dr. Steven Errante, renowned conductor of the Wilmington Symphony. The Wilmington Ballet Company is proud of this collaboration as both organizations share the same mission of providing unique training and performance opportunities to talented young dancers and musicians in the Cape Fear area.

The Wilmington Ballet Company

As a non-profit organization, The Wilmington Ballet Company is dedicated to making ballet accessible to all children in the community. The Ballet Company, in association with the Watson School of Education at UNCW, will offer special school performances and curriculum materials. Cinderella is sponsored by the UNCW Office of Cultural Arts, The Landfall Foundation, The Wal-Mart Foundation, and The North Carolina Arts Council.

Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra

Founded in 2002 and conducted by WSO Music Director Steven Errante, the Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra draws its members from throughout the Lower Cape Fear area. The WSYO is intended as a complement to school music programs and we strongly encourage our members to participate in their school ensembles.

The mission of the Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra and its Junior Strings Division is to enrich the lives of Cape Fear area youth by providing talented young musicians with unique orchestral training and performing opportunities.
