The Art of Claude Howell
The Art of Claude Howell: a retrospective of works by the acclaimed Wilmington artist.

January 11 - 31, 2007 in the the Art Gallery of the new Cultural Arts Building.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

A Wilmington, NC native, Claude Flynn Howell (1915 - 1997) is known for his broad, flat-color paintings of life in the coastal Carolinas.

Howell served as the head UNCW's Department of Art and Art History when it became a four-year college. He taught at UNCW for twenty-one years before retiring in 1981.

Howell traveled widely and showed his work in many exhibitions, including The Corcoran Gallery and Metropolitan Museum of Art.
