PROGRAM DETAILS
On Saturday, February 17, 2007, at 8:00 p.m. in Kenan Auditorium the Wilmington Symphony performs the pioneering Symphony No. 1 of William Grant Still--considered the "dean of African-American composers." Wilmington favorites Joy Murrell and Marva Robinson, both sopranos, will sing spirituals specially arranged for symphony orchestra by WSO Music Director Dr. Steven Errante. New Orleans composer Roger Dickerson will be attending for the world premiere of the orchestral version of his featured art song, For the Love of Jesus.
The spotlight will also be two promising young musical talents on Saturday evening,-- the winners of the WSO's 30th Annual Student Concerto Competition. High School Division winner Lindsey Vickers will perform Mozart's Piano Concerto #12 in A and UNCW Division winner Jon Tucker will perform Paule Maurice's Tableaux de Provence for alto saxophone and orchestra.
