ABOUT THE ARTIST
Daniel Johnson has appeared as principal tuba with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra, the Long Bay Symphony, the New Hampshire Philharmonic, St. Louis Philharmonic, New Bedford Philharmonic, the Atlanta-Emory Orchestra, the Brattleboro (VT) Festival Orchestra, and the Keene (NH) Chamber Orchestra. As a soloist, he has performed a variety of works on both tuba and euphonium. Founder of the Port City Tubas, Dr. Johnson frequently performs with this group and coordinates Wilmington’s annual Tuba Christmas and OctubaFest concerts. He co-founded the UNCW Faculty Brass Quintet and won second place in the 1989 Keystone Brass Institute Competition. His performance experience includes orchestral and brass quintet tours in Mexico, Italy, Germany, Austria, France, and Switzerland. This spring, he will be a featured soloist and clinician at the South East Regional Conference of the International Tuba and Euphonium Association hosted by Western Carolina University.
ABOUT THE UNCW WIND SYMPHONY AND CHAMBER WINDS
The Wind Symphony is UNCW’s premiere symphonic band and its members consist of music majors in the Department of Music and students university wide; while also involving outstanding high school musicians, local music teachers (both retired and active), people in the music business and music industry, and other community members. The Wind Symphony is a place where the university connects with the community striving to create the highest level of musical communication possible through the performance of the wind band repertoire. This event features Christofer Ackerman as director.
