Shu Qi and Chang Chen play the lead roles in three sentimental tales set in different time periods (1911, 1966, and the present day), suggesting three reincarnations of an unfinished love. Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-hsien has been called one of the most important filmmakers working today. New York Times critic A.O. Scott proclaims Three Times “A masterpiece.
