Department of Music performance student, Pedro Esparza, performs works for saxophone by Bach, Darius Milhaud, Sam Jones, Joe Henderson and Jerome Kern.

ABOUT THE MUSICIAN
Pedro Esparza is a Junior pursuing a Double Performance Degree in Classical and Jazz Saxophone. He is from New Bern, North Carolina, and went to New Bern High School where he studied under the direction of Alexander Williams. He has performed with the UNCW Wind Symphony, UNCW Big Band, UNCW Saxtet, Wilmington Symphony Orchestra, the Frank Bongiorno Quartet, the Andrew Thielen Big Band, and the Wilmington Big Band. He also leads his own band, After Hours, which is a jazz quintet made up of UNCW students, and performs for numerous University events, for the Chancellor, the Alumni Association, and other organizations. After Hours is the ensemble in which Pedro is performing his jazz repertoire with tonight.
Pedro has been a participant in the UNCW Summer Workshops, under the direction of Frank Bongiorno, for many years, as well as a counselor, for the last two years. He has received scholarships from the UNCW Department of Music. In addition, Pedro was recognized as the one minority student who best represents the College of Arts and Sciences in terms of leadership and academic excellence in 2005.
He has performed for master class clinicians such as Jean Marie Londeix, Steve Pollock, and Eugene Rousseau.
Mr. Esparza is a saxophone student of Dr. Frank Bongiorno.
