The UNCW Department of Music presents An Evening of Brass featuring UNCW's Faculty Brass Quintet, Brass Studios, Port City Tubas and special guests.

ABOUT THE ENSEMBLES

UNCW FACULTY BRASS QUINTET performs both on and off campus for classes, demonstrations, and recitals. The quintet usually includes an exceptional student as the second trumpet player. The other current members of the ensemble are: Mr. Chistofer Ackerman; trumpet; Dr. Crystal Britton, horn; Mr. Jerald Shynett, trombone; Dr. Daniel Johnson, tuba; James Horton, second trumpet

The PORT CITY TUBAS is an ensemble comprised of college and community tuba and euphonium players. Members include area professional performers, music educators, and students who regularly perform in Tuba Christmas and OctubaFest concerts. Members are: Mark Doerffel, euphonium, graduated from Louisiana State University and Appalachian State University. He is now the band director at Laney High School and performs with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra. Ben Edwards, euphonium, is the band director at South Brunswick Middle School. He is a graduate of Appalachian State University and a member of the Brunswick Community Band. Elias Galloway, euphonium, is an undergraduate music performance major at UNCW. Daniel Johnson, tuba, is the tuba and euphonium professor at UNCW and founder of the Port City Tubas. He is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music and the University of Arizona. Mike Rhoades, tuba, is a graduate of Augustina College and UNC-Wilmington. He performs as a member of the UNCW Wind Symphony. Kerry Shimfessel, tuba, is a senior at Hoggard High School and will be majoring in music education at UNCG this fall.
