Celebrate MLK Day and prepare for the visit of the amazing actor Danny Glover by joining us for this award-winning film! Based upon the novel by Alice Walker, this achingly beautiful film follows the struggles of Celie Johnson throughout the early decades of the twentieth century. We watch as Celie struggles with incest, childbirth, marriage, domestic violence, infidelity, and a heartbreaking separation from her beloved sister and her own child. Over the years, Celie develops friendships that help her develop into a strong and creative woman. Danny Glover plays Celie's abusive husband, a man who must also transform to survive the changes in his world.

Alice Walker won a Pulitzer Prize for her novel. Whoopi Goldberg won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama.
