VANGUARD VOICES / G. Kevin Dewey, Artistic Director
Vanguard Voices, established in 1992, is dedicated to seeking out and performing the best in traditional and contemporary choral music. Its members enjoy the challenge of singing a cappella, with the Vanguard Brass Ensemble, and with symphony orchestras.
A prize winner at the 2001 Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in North Wales, the ensemble's most recent CDs are Vanguard Voices & Brass, featuring Rutter's Gloria and Dello Joio's Mass, and Vanguard Premieres, featuring live premiere performances of 14 new choral compositions.
Vanguard Voices is proud to sponsor Vanguard Premieres, an initiative to promote the creation of new choral works by established and aspiring composers. The program is a combination of commissions and composition contests and has introduced 23 new choral works since 2003. The first commission was Sing to the Lord a New Song by Wilmington Symphony conductor-and UNCW composition professor-Steven Errante.
[This program is also part of the Summer Nights Under the Stars subscription series]
