Regina Carter Quintet
Violinist Regina Carter, recipient of a prestigious MacArthur Fellows Program "genius" grant, is one of the freshest and most exciting performers in contemporary jazz. A classically trained virtuoso, Carter can fire off jaw-dropping high-speed licks just as easily as she can slip into a funky, swinging jazz violin style not unlike the great Stuff Smith. "Regina Carter plays music that is wonderfully listenable, probingly intelligent, and at times, breathtakingly daring…taking the listener into the future of jazz," wrote Time.
