Monday April 3, 2006 UNCW WIND SYMPHONY PRESENTS WORKS INSPIRED BY THE LORD OF THE RINGS AND THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA
Senator Julia Boseman to be featured as guest narrator
Wilmington, NC – The University of North Carolina Wind Symphony presents Music That Tells a Story: Adventures through Sound featuring guest narrator Senator Julia Boseman at 8 p.m. Monday, April 3 in Kenan Auditorium.
The evening includes works from and inspired by The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis and The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. Senator Boseman, who has taken part in previous Department of Music events, will narrate excerpts from these epic adventures while the UNCW Wind Symphony performs.
Highlights include a performance of "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe”, composed by Harry Gregson-Williams and arranged by Paul Murtha for the 2005 film; and Symphony No. 1, "Lord of the Rings" composed by Johan de Meij in the 1980’s. The final piece, "Awakening of The Ents" by H. Owen Reed, was also inspired by The Lord of the Rings and features members of the UNCW choral ensembles who lend their talents as the voice of Tolken's Elven language.
This concert is free and open to the public.

ABOUT THE ENSEMBLES
The Wind Symphony is UNCW’s premiere symphonic band and its members consist of music majors in the Department of Music, other university students, outstanding high school musicians, local music teachers, and other community members. The Wind Symphony is a place where the university connects with the community striving to create the highest level of musical communication possible through the performance of the wind band repertoire.
The UNCW Chamber Winds is a subset of the university’s Wind Symphony that primarily consists of music majors in the Department of Music and performs works emphasizing strong musician independency and soloist practices. This is an opportunity for music majors to push their own personal artistic abilities to the highest level.
