Celebrate the holidays and sing along with Port City Tubas and Friends. Both events are free family fun.

UNCW Tuba Christmas Ensemble is comprised of community and college euphonium and tuba players from throughout the Cape Fear region. The ensemble promotes the low brass instruments by featuring marches, polkas, and other seasonal music.

DANIEL C. JOHNSON, assistant professor in the UNCW's Department of Music, teaches applied tuba and euphonium studies, and courses in music education, music technology, and the honors scholars program. Dr. Johnson is a multi-instrumentalist with over thirteen years of teaching experience. He has performed as principal tubist with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra, the Long Bay Symphony, and the UNCW Faculty Brass Quintet. He has also performed as a soloist with the Laney High School Band and founded the UNCW Early Music Consort. With the Conservatory Brass Quintet, Johnson won second place in the 1989 Keystone Brass Institute Competition and premiered several unpublished works for brass quintet. As a member of the NC School of the Arts International Festival Orchestra, Dr. Johnson toured Italy, Germany, Austria, France, and Switzerland. His performing experience includes appearances with ensembles in Mexico, Europe, and the United States with the New Hampshire Philharmonic, St. Louis Philharmonic, New Bedford Philharmonic, and the Keene (NH) Chamber Orchestra, as well as with numerous brass quintets.
