Undergraduates from Across North Carolina to Showcase their Research at UNC Wilmington Nov. 21

Nearly 700 undergraduate students from across North Carolina will present research projects Saturday, Nov. 21 at the fifth annual State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium (SNCURCS). The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Fisher Student Center and Fisher University Union on the University of North Carolina Wilmington campus.   more

IBM Grant Supports Learning for all Ages at Hillcrest through UNCW-WHA Community Campus

Based on a grant proposal developed by the University of North Carolina Wilmington, IBM has donated two Young Explorer™ computers as part of its KidSmart early learning computer program and $14,000 to support the UNCW-WHA Community Campus at Hillcrest. The community campus is a partnership between UNCW and the Wilmington Housing Authority (WHA).  more

Evening of Short Talks to Commemorate 150th Anniversary of Darwin's Origin of Species Nov. 17 at UNC Wilmington

The University of North Carolina Wilmington will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the publication of Charles Darwin’s Origin of Species with an evening of short talks titled “Darwin and the Origin of Species: A Twenty‐First Century Perspective,” Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. in DeLoach Hall 114. The event is free and open to the public.  more

TODAY: Rosenwald African American School History Awareness Conference Hosted by UNC Wilmington

The University of North Carolina Wilmington is hosting a conference on the history of the Rosenwald African American school movement from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13 at the UNCW Executive Development Center at Landfall, 1241 Military Cutoff. Preservationists are racing against time to save the deteriorating Rosenwald school structures in Pender and surrounding counties, and to record the experiences of Rosenwald alumni and teachers before it is too late.  more

Visiting Fiction Writer Ben Fountain to Read at UNC Wilmington Nov. 19

Ben Fountain, visiting writer at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, will read from his book of short stories Brief Encounters with Che Guevara (Ecco/HarperCollins, 2006) 7 p.m., Thurs., Nov. 19, in Kenan Hall 1111 on the UNCW campus. The public is invited to this free event. A reception will follow, along with a book signing courtesy of Pomegranate Books.   more
