TODAY: Rosenwald African American School History Awareness Conference Hosted by UNC Wilmington
The University of North Carolina Wilmington is hosting a conference on the history of the Rosenwald African American school movement from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13 at the UNCW Executive Development Center at Landfall, 1241 Military Cutoff. Preservationists are racing against time to save the deteriorating Rosenwald school structures in Pender and surrounding counties, and to record the experiences of Rosenwald alumni and teachers before it is too late.  more

Visiting Fiction Writer Ben Fountain to Read at UNC Wilmington Nov. 19
Ben Fountain, visiting writer at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, will read from his book of short stories Brief Encounters with Che Guevara (Ecco/HarperCollins, 2006) 7 p.m., Thurs., Nov. 19, in Kenan Hall 1111 on the UNCW campus. The public is invited to this free event. A reception will follow, along with a book signing courtesy of Pomegranate Books.
