In addition to the performance, artistic director Bruce Wood will conduct a master class featuring UNCW students at 1 p.m. Friday, March 26 in Kenan Auditorium. The class will incorporate Wood’s distinctive choreography and technique and is free and open to the public for those who wish to observe the class.

Bruce Wood Dance Company (BWDC) was established in1996 as a showcase for the acclaimed choreography of Bruce Wood. Wood studied at the School of American Ballet under the tutelage of the legendary George Balanchine. After a brief engagement with the New York City Ballet, Wood refined his Balanchine training by dancing four years as a soloist with the San Francisco Ballet. At the age of 21, he joined Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal as a principal dancer, and for the next four years he performed and taught all over the world.

Now in the midst of its seventh season, BWDC continues to stage works at Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, Texas, featuring an ever-growing repertoire. The company’s success is due to Wood’s prolific efforts toward creating new works, as well as his collaboration with other renowned choreographers. As a result, BWDC has been chosen to be on the Texas Commission on the Arts Texas Touring Roster since June 2000.
