UNCW Student Monica Lissette Lorenzo to Study Medicine in China

Wilmington, N.C. – University of North Carolina at Wilmington junior Monica Lissette Lorenzo was selected for the International Mission on Medicine to China from May 15 to 30. Lorenzo, daughter of Ray and Debbie Lorenzo of Virginia Beach, Va., will join 80 other college students from throughout the United States interested in medical careers.
Lorenzo will explore China’s Peking Union Hospital College and Chengu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Students will participate in dialogues and observe the relationship between western and eastern medicine. The program curriculum will introduce Lorenzo to some of the practices of traditional Chinese medicine such as acupuncture. In Xi’an, China’s ancient capital, participants will take part in discussions with physicians and nurses regarding the leadership and management issues they face in rural China, and the challenges of integrating western medicine.
