Wilmington, N.C.—The University of North Carolina at Wilmington Department of Creative Writing announces its third annual Young Writers Workshop will be held from June 22-26 on the UNCW campus. The Young Writers Workshop is a five-day program designed for close to three dozen high school age students of varying levels of ability and experience who are interested in studying the craft of writing.

Young Writers Workshop attendees will participate in daily creative writing exercises, craft lectures, writing workshops and readings. Because the workshop is held on the UNCW campus, students stay in the residence halls and take meals in the dining facilities. The workshop is directed and run by the creative writing graduate students and faculty, giving the attendees a chance to study their craft with published, working writers.

The past two years brought workshop students from all over the East Coast and as far away as Michigan. The workshop is a valuable experience for any high school student interested in pursuing creative writing and meeting other writers.

The registration fee for the 2004 Young Writers Workshop is $400, which covers tuition, housing and daily meals. Payment is due upon registration. The registration deadline is Monday, May 17, but registrations will be accepted as long as slots are still available.

For more information on the Young Writers Workshop visit the departments’s Web site at www.uncw.edu/writers/community-workshop.html or to request a brochure, contact the Department of Creative Writing at 910/962-7063.
