WILMINGTON, N.C.—The University of North Carolina at Wilmington Department of Art and Theatre in association with Walls Gallery is sponsoring a lecture by well-known painter Charles Movalli, who will speak on “The Life and Art of John Singer Sargent.” The lecture will be given at 7 p.m. in Kenan Hall, Room 121 on Wednesday, Aug. 25. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be followed by a public reception in the Claude Howell Gallery.

Movalli, of Gloucester, Mass., holds a Ph.D. in English, has authored many art books working with such prominent artists as Emile Gruppe and Paul Strisik, has taught workshops in 24 states and six foreign countries over a period of 20 years, and has lectured and demonstrated for more than 100 art organizations. Movalli is featured in John Stobart’s video, Worldscape II. As a writer, a teacher, and a painter, Movalli considers himself a painter, first, who writes and teaches. He has received a multitude of awards including the highest honor from the Hudson Valley Art Association for “his outstanding, outreaching dedication to the preservation and expression of art.” His writing has been included in Southern Accents, and American Art Review. His work is part of a large number of collections including First National Bank of Boston, Morton-Thiokol, Glaxo and Integon.
