WILMINGTON, N.C. – The University of North Carolina at Wilmington announces that Paul Hosier, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs, has accepted the position of provost as of September 1, 2004. Hosier was named interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the UNCW in June 2002.
UNCW Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo announced the desire for Hosier to accept the appointment, pending the approval of the Board of Trustees. The executive committee of the Board of Trustees approved the appointment on Aug. 31, 2004.
“Dr. Hosier, in the two years as interim provost, has shown a keen sense of skill and ability in managing the academic affairs of this university. I believe he is extremely qualified for this position on a permanent basis,” said DePaolo. “The continuity this will provide enables us to continue to strengthen as a university.”
In addition to his administrative positions, Hosier is a professor of biology. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at New Paltz, a master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts and a Ph.D. from Duke University. He joined UNCW in 1972.
Hosier appreciates the job he has accepted.
“The past two years have been challenging in terms of balancing resources while maintaining—and improving—the education we offer students,” Hosier said. “The members of the Division of Academic Affairs, along with other university personnel, show a unique dedication to build on the strong reputation UNCW holds.”
The provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs reports directly to the chancellor and oversees the academic units of the university.
