Wilmington, N.C. – The Office of Human Resources at the University of North Carolina Wilmington today received the 2004 SunGard SCT Technology Award at the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) in Salt Lake City, Utah. UNCW was recognized for developing a software program, originally called HRsearch, now known as Consensus™, that facilitates employment searches, particularly in an academic setting where large search committees are the norm.

The award, created in 1999 and sponsored by SunGard SCT, Inc., recognizes demonstrated technological innovations that advance the human resources profession. Developed as a collaboration between human resources and the Information Technology Systems Division applications development staff, the software program has been successfully used on a number of high level searches, including the chancellor’s search in 2002-03.

Plans call for its increased use for searches for exempt staff and faculty, said Mark Steelman, director of employment and compensation at UNCW, who received the award on behalf of the university.

The software has a patent pending, and UNCW intends to license the product.
