Wilmington, N.C.—The House on Dream Street: Memoir of an American Woman in Vietnam by Dana Sachs, a part-time faculty member of the English department at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, is the first selection for the New Hanover County’s “One Book, One Community” program. Cape Fear Community College Learning Resource Center, New Hanover County Public Library, New Hanover High School and UNCW Randall Library are sponsoring the program and its events.
“One Book, One Community” programs have been occurring all across the country from Seattle to Chicago. The community is asked to read this book, and then join in various scheduled events throughout January and February to celebrate and share this achievement with fellow community members.
Multiple copies of The House on Dream Street will be available at all the participating libraries, including CFCC LRC, New Hanover County Public Library and UNCW Randall Library. Or, several area bookstores will have the book for sale, including the UNCW Bookstore, Bristol Books, Two Sisters Bookery, Barnes and Noble, Waldenbooks, Heller’s Book Shop, Quartermoon Books, and the Seahawk Book and Supply Company.
There will be several opportunities throughout January and February to meet the author, Dana Sachs, and have her sign personal copies.
Sachs is a local author, a graduate of the UNCW MFA program in creative writing, and a part-time lecturer for the UNCW English department. Her book is a memoir about her experiences as an American living in Vietnam in the early 1990s, just after tourist visas were made available to US citizens.
