Global Water Issues Lecture

Wilmington, N.C. – As part of the Great Decisions Program, University of North Carolina Wilmington will host Juan Carlos Belausteguigoitia, lead environmental economist for Latin America and the Caribbean at the World Bank, from 7 - 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 22 in Cameron Hall Auditorium on the campus of UNCW. His lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will be held before the lecture at 5:30 p.m.; cost is $40 for one person or $35 per person for two or more people. Carlos will discuss the internal conflict many regions of the world experience as a result of water scarcity and will review policies for ensuring water quality and the efforts of many international organizations and governments to effectively address water governance.

Carlos served as chief economist for the government of Mexico and as under-secretary for planning at the Ministry for the Environment and Natural Resources. He has written numerous articles on environmental policy and lectured on environmental economics and policy at Dartmouth College, the Instituto Technologico Autonome de Mexico and the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California at Berkley.
