Wilmington, N.C. – Thanks to funding from the Higher Education Facilities Bond Issue passed by North Carolina voters in 2000, University of North Carolina Wilmington will soon occupy a state-of-the art central computing complex that is hardened to withstand adverse weather and equipped with emergency power and enhanced security.
While the relocation takes place March 23-April 7, there will be some temporary disruptions of computer service. Campus e-mail will be down from 5 p.m., Thursday, March 24 over Easter break to be back up and functioning by 8 a.m., Tuesday, March 29, if not before. Access to the Internet is expected to be available throughout the relocation except for a short period of time during the transition.
All efforts are being made to minimize disruption and result in the least adverse impact to campus, including having the information technology staff work around the clock over the Easter break.

In a letter to all faculty and staff, Vice Chancellor for Information Technology Robert Tyndall noted that the timing of this service disruption was set by two separate construction schedules. “The final result will be good for UNCW. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated,” he said.
