Professor to speak on mass production of mass media

Wilmington, N.C. - Richard K. Olsen, Jr. will speak on the campus of University of North Carolina Wilmington from 7:30 - 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 3. Olsen’s topic will be mass production of mass media.
In this session, participants will explore how mass production and mass media play vital roles in the scale and power of popular culture. Registration is due by April 25 and is $10 for faculty, staff and students and $18 for the general public.
Olsen is an associate professor in the Department of Communication Studies at UNCW. He teaches research methods, debate and rhetorical theory courses. Olsen’s research projects often begin with the question “Why is THAT so popular?” and has published/presented answers to that question for Martha Stewart, SUV’s and shows such as TLC’s Trading Spaces and MTV’s Total Request Live.
