Wilmington, N.C. – The University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Physics Colloquium will present Deborah Konkowski at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 21 in DeLoach Hall, Room 212 on the campus of UNCW. This event is free and open to the public.
Konkowski, professor of mathematics at the United States Naval Academy, will discuss “Black Holes, Big Bangs and Cosmic Strings.” Her research area at USNA is mathematical physics, primarily general relativity, and is focused on the nature of singularities in general relativistic spacetimes which model physical objects such as black holes and cosmic strings.
Immediately following her talk, a ceremony will be help to induct new members into the UNCW chapter of Sigma Pi Sigma, the national physics honor society. This will be followed by a social featuring soft drinks and pizza to celebrate the achievements of the inductees.
Konkowski will also deliver the Physics Colloquium “Classical and Quantum Singularities in General Relativistic Spacetimes” at 2 p.m. Friday, April 22 in DeLoach Hall, Room 212. Refreshments will be served following the lecture.
