Wilmington, NC – “A Point of View,” an exhibit featuring photography by Kristin Van Wynen begins Aug.15 and runs through Oct. 10 in the University Union Living Room on the campus of University of North Carolina Wilmington. The opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24. Both the exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. The exhibit is sponsored by UNCW Presents.
Kristin Van Wynen’s award-winning photographs capture the essence of nature and its beauty, both grand and delicate. Her images are reflective of the southeast from the mountains to the seashore. Viewers may recognize scenes of Wrightsville Beach, Pleasure Island, local gardens, the North Carolina state flower (the dogwood) and many shore birds. Her photographs are intended to relax the viewer, to create a quiet place that may help people experience inner freedom. She says, “God’s beauty is all around if it can only be noticed.”
Van Wynen can often be found hiking in the mountains and exploring and kayaking in the tidal creeks for her subject matter. She has lived in Wilmington since 1977 and enjoys doing fiber arts, drawing, painting and beading in addition to her photography. Her work has been exhibited across North Carolina, New York City, Washington, D.C, Chicago and Philadelphia. She is represented in galleries in eastern North Carolina.
Her photographic training includes Parson’s School of Design, Silvermine College of Arts, Rochester Institute of Technology and the New York Institute of Photography. She is a member of the Sierra Club, Nature Conservancy and the National Audubon Society.
