"Strange, isn't it? Each one's life touches so many other lives. When one isn't around it leaves an awful hole, doesn't it?" - Clarence, It's a Wonderful Life.
Wilmington, NC - The UNC Wilmington Department of Film Studies and the university community invite area residents to a holiday celebration featuring Frank Capra's film It's a Wonderful Life on Friday, Dec. 16, at Kenan Auditorium on the UNCW campus. New this year is a partnership with the Salvation Army to make this holiday wonderful for others by inviting attendees to bring financial donations, new clothing for children ages 3- 9 years, or toys for the Salvation Army to distribute. There is an urgent need for new clothing.
Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. on the steps of the auditorium with holiday singing and free hot cider and cocoa followed by the program which begins at 7 p.m.
Hosted by Dr. Lou Buttino, chair of film studies, the program will feature Frank Capra Jr. who will introduce It's a Wonderful Life and explain how and why his father came to make the film. A distinguished member of the film studies faculty, Capra has a singular personal and professional knowledge of the film. "It's unique that our community has such a connection to this American film classic - enjoyed by millions - in Frank Capra, Jr.," Buttino said. "And to see this film as a shared experience, on the big screen, is truly powerful. The impact is far greater than seeing it on television."
This community event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Kenan Auditorium Box Office at 910. 962.3500 or the UNCW Department of Film Studies at 910.962.7502.
