Evers-Williams to Speak at UNCW as Part of MLK Jr. Celebration

Wilmington, N.C. - Myrlie Evers-Williams will be the keynote speaker as part of the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at University of North Carolina Wilmington. She will speak at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18 in Kenan Auditorium.

Widow of Medgar Evers, the slain civil rights leader, Evers-Williams continued as a civil rights activist after his death and eventually became the first woman to lead the National Association for the Advancement of Colored Persons (NAACP).

This event is being co-sponsored by the Wilmington Housing Authority, City of Wilmington, African American Heritage Foundation, NAACP, the MLK Ministerial Roundtable of Wilmington, UNCW Office of Campus Diversity, Women's Resource Center, and the Upperman African American Cultural Center.
