Wilmington, N.C. - The Lady and the Outlaw Horse, the newest award-winning documentary by Lou Buttino, filmmaker and chair of the University of North Carolina Wilmington Department of Film Studies, has been named Best Biographical Documentary by the West Coast edition of the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival (NYIIFVF).

The film has also been selected for screening at NYIIFVF's East Coast festival edition in May, a rare honor. Recently, yet another international film festival, the WorldFest Houston International Film Festival, one of the largest film festivals in the world, has selected The Lady and the Outlaw Horse for distinction, nominating the film for "Best Documentary." An announcement from Houston is expected in days.

The Lady and the Outlaw Horse premieres in North Carolina at Kenan Auditorium on the campus of UNCW at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 31. An extension of UNCW's commitment to regional engagement and community-university dialogue, this Wilmington screening is being offered to the public free of charge.

As the capstone event to the university's celebration of Women's History Month, a brief prologue to the film will feature a welcome from Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo, remarks on the film as a practice of public history by Tammrah Stone-Gordon, assistant professor of history, and a personal introduction of the work by Dr. Buttino. Students of upper elementary, middle school and high school age are encouraged to attend.
