UNC Wilmington offers Business SmARTS for the Arts Workshop

WILMINGTON, NC - Performing and visual artists can learn techniques to enhance their business skills at a June 3rd workshop, Business SmARTS for the Arts, offered by UNCW's Division for Public Service and Continuing Studies. The workshop will feature subject matter experts from UNCW who will share information and techniques to sharpen artists' business acumen. Session topics will include:

• Copyright Law

• How to Document and Organize Your Art Using Digital Photography

• Recognizing and Dealing with Blocks to Creativity

• Organizing Your Financial Receipts for Tax Purposes

• Presentation Skills: Preparing a Portfolio and Presenting to a Gallery or Performance Hall

• Applying for Grants and Funding

The instructors will be: Dr. Robert Brown, professor of psychology; Jarrett Piner, Technology Assistance Center support specialist; Charles "Chuck" Earney, assistant professor of accountancy; Robert Hoon, associate general counsel - Chancellor's Office; Dr. Richard Olsen, associate professor communication studies; and Lynn Smithdeal, faculty liaison community engagement.

The workshop will take place from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday, June 3 at UNCW's Executive Development Center. The cost is $35 for members of GWACA* (Greater Wilmington Arts and Cultural Alliance) and $45 for general public. Pre-registration is required. The price includes lunch. The target audience for this event is new and established artists, representatives of non-profit arts groups as well as representatives of for-profit galleries and performance halls.
