Seahawks Ink Deal With adidas

Wilmington, N.C. - University of North Carolina Wilmington has teamed up with adidas in a wide-ranging agreement that will make the sports manufacturing giant the official footwear and apparel provider for Seahawk athletics through 2010-11.
In compliance with the five-year contract, UNCW athletic teams will wear adidas products exclusively during practice and competition. In return, the company will provide direct service to the Seahawks as well as tremendous exposure for the program.
"This is a major step in the overall branding process for our athletic program," said Mike Capaccio, UNCW's director of athletics. "We're proud and honored to be associated with such an outstanding company. This commitment by adidas demonstrates their understanding of having an institution like UNC Wilmington in their family. Their commitment to UNCW is greatly appreciated."
UNCW joins an elite list of institutions under the adidas banner, including national powers Notre Dame, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Kansas, Louisville, Indiana, Pittsburgh and UCLA.
"We're proud to be associated with the UNCW student-athletes, coaches and administrators," said Richard Spanjian, vice-president for adidas/team division. "We believe the program is one that embodies the spirit of competition, sportsmanship and scholarship." The agreement with adidas begins July 1, 2006, and will benefit all 19 of UNCW's intercollegiate teams. In addition to footwear and apparel, it also covers discounts on accessories for the programs.
Capaccio added, "This will help us elevate our program because we are joining other adidas schools at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics. We will have a consistent look and benefit from superior products. Our program will also benefit from increased credibility as we move forward with merchandising our name and brand."
