UNCW Opens New, State-of-the-Art Movie Theater on Campus, Announces Fall Film Series

Wilmington, NC - The University of North Carolina Wilmington Fisher Student Center announces the opening of Lumina Theater, UNCW's new source for blockbuster, independent, art house, international, and classic cinema. The fall film series runs five days a week throughout the semester, except during University holidays and breaks. The theater opens Aug. 23 with the Fisher Student Center Grand Opening on Aug. 24.

Lumina Theater is located in the new Fisher Student Center on the campus of UNCW between Reigel Road and Hamilton Drive. Tickets can be purchased at the FSC Box Office one hour before the show. New releases are $2 for UNCW students and $4 for all others. Most movies are free and all are open to the public. Ticket prices for special events vary. UNCW Fall Film Series
Wednesdays
Intersections: Art and Film Aug. 23-Sept. 13
Presented by Randall Library, Film Studies and Art Department
In celebration of the growing culture of fine arts on the UNCW campus, this series features four films that profile contemporary artists in challenging and engaging ways, detailing the reflexive intersections of art and film. Exploring such varied artists as Pablo Picasso, Jean Michel Basquiat, Harvey Pekar, and Frida Kahlo, each film will be prefaced by an introduction from a UNCW scholar.

Engage International Film Series Sept. 20-Oct. 4; Nov. 15 & 29
Presented by Film Studies
This series showcases diverse visionary films from around the world, ranging from the acclaimed highlights from recent international film festivals to classics that need to be seen on the big screen.

Cinema Nouveau 4 Oct. 11-Nov. 8
Presented by Film Studies, Foreign Languages & Literature and made possible with support from the Cultural Services of the French Ministry of Culture (CNC)

UNCW's fourth annual Cinema Nouveau festival brings a series of cutting edge French films to campus. The season showcases a range of genres and styles, highlighting regional premieres and award-winning films from France's most talented filmmakers.

Thursdays
Moviemakers and Scholars Series, 6:30-9:15 p.m.
The Film Studies Department holds a series of talks by local and visiting filmmakers, film critics, and film scholars. Actors, directors, cinematographers, editors, independent filmmakers, screenwriters, grips, producers, makeup artists, agents and others share their experiences working inside the entertainment industry. Fridays
ACE Films: Blockbuster Series at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.
The Association for Campus Entertainment (ACE) kicks off a weekend of film beginning with its Blockbuster Series featuring the hottest new releases before they hit DVD.
ACE Films: Cult Classics at 1 a.m.
Saturdays
ACE Blockbuster Series at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
ACE Films: Independent Cinema at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.
ACE presents campus audiences with the best in contemporary independent film.

Sundays
Matinee Series at 2 p.m.
Encore screening of films shown during the week including international, art, classic, blockbuster, independent, student screenings, and more.

Armchair Traveler Series at 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Travel the farthest reaches of the world, without ever having to leave your seat. UNCW Public Service presents a new film series taking you on adventures to Russia, Greece, China and England. Enjoy a short lecture prior to the screening by one of UNCW's renowned faculty describing the many wonders of these fascinating countries.
