Wilmington, N.C. - University of North Carolina Wilmington Professor of Biology and Marine Biology Lawrence B. Cahoon was one of 20 scholars selected nationwide as a BEN Scholar. He will participate in its inaugural training program Dec. 7-10 in Washington, D.C.
Funded by the National Science Foundation through the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the BiosciEdNet (BEN) Scholars Program is designed to promote the use of digital resources in undergraduate biology courses and curricula.
The BEN Scholars Program aims at not only providing access to e-resources but also to serve as a change agent for strengthening teaching methods and learning in the biological sciences. Each year 20 BEN Scholars will be selected to complete training along with a cohort of other participants.
Cahoon is a biological oceanographer and limnologist. His interests in the BEN Scholars Program are in retooling and upgrading his limnology and forensic environmental science courses. He received a B.S. in Biology from Washington & Lee University and his Ph.D. from Duke University in Zoology.
