WILMINGTON, NC - In conjunction with the inauguration of the Cultural Arts Building on the campus of the University of North Carolina Wilmington, UNCW's Theatre Program kicks off the spring semester with the 15-Minute Hamlet by Tom Stoppard at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28 in the 290-seat Mainstage Theatre. In addition, two 10-minute original plays from the most recent Playwrights Festival, written by UNCW students, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in the new SRO/Blackbox Theatre. There is no charge for admission.
Our special season includes:
• Noel Coward's Fallen Angels, Feb. 22-25. Theatre professor Renee Vincent directs this rarely seen 1920s comedy, which the Theatre Program obtained special amateur rights to produce.
• Womb of the Moon, March 22-26. (World-Premiere) Lou Buttino, director of the UNCW Department of Film Studies, penned this heartwarming exploration of an immigrant Italian family as it adjusts to shifting cultural mores and expectations.
• Fuddy Meers by David Lindsay-Abaire, April 26-29. The performance of this prize-winning contemporary comedy on Thursday, April 26 will be dedicated to UNCW theatre legend Doug Swink. Proceeds will benefit a scholarship to be created in his honor.
All performances will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday.
Tickets for each performance are $10 per person. A special adult subscription rate of $25 is available for all three shows and guarantees seats in the Mainstage Theatre. The student subscription rate is $15. Tickets can be purchased by contacting the Kenan Box Office at 910/962-3500 or 800/732-3643.
