Former Attorney General Edwin Meese to Speak at UNCW March 21

Wilmington, N.C. - Edwin Meese III, who served as the 75th U.S. Attorney General during the Reagan Administration, will share "Reflections on a Life of Public Service" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, in Kenan Auditorium at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

As the nation's chief law enforcement officer from February 1985 to August 1988, Meese directed the Department of Justice and led international efforts to combat terrorism, drug trafficking and organized crime. From January 1981 to February 1985, he held the position of Counsellor to the President, the senior position on the White House staff, where he functioned as the president's chief policy advisor.

Meese recently served as a member of the bipartisan Iraq Study Group. He holds the Ronald Reagan Chair in Public Policy at the Heritage Foundation, a Washington-based public policy research and education institution. He is also chairman of Heritage's Center for Legal and Judicial Studies and a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. In addition, Meese lectures, writes and consults throughout the U.S. on a variety of topics. He is the author of With Reagan: The Inside Story, published in 1992.

Admission to the lecture is $10 for the general public, $7 for UNCW faculty and staff, and free to students with ID. Tickets are available in advance at the Kenan Auditorium Box Office from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, or by phone at 910.962.3500.

Meese's appearance is sponsored by the UNCW Department of Political Science. The department will also host a private reception with Meese from 5:30 to 7 p.m., prior to the public lecture.
