Wilmington Mayoral, City Council Candidates Forum Scheduled for
Sept. 26 at UNC Wilmington

Wilmington, NC - The Council of Neighborhood Associations (CONA), in conjunction with WAAV radio, Star-News, the League of Women Voters and UNC Wilmington, will sponsor a candidates forum in preparation for the Oct. 9 election of City of Wilmington mayor and council members. The forum will begin at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26, in the Warwick Center Ballroom on the campus of UNCW.
The forum, which will feature 12 candidates for city council and three candidates for mayor, will utilize a panel format, and questions will also be taken from the floor. Donn Ansell, board member of the League of Women Voters and former talk show host for WAAV, will be the moderator. The public is encouraged to attend and participate.
Forum panelists will include: Stephen Meinhold, associate professor of political science, UNCW; Rhonda Bellamy, WAAV news director; Si Cantwell, reporter, Star-News; Jim Hanchett, co-anchor, WECT-TV6; and Jana Albritton, League of Women Voters.
Welcoming and introductory remarks will be made by UNCW Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo, Ilse Henagan from the Council of Neighborhood Associations and Cathy Byrne from the League of Women Voters.
The forum will be broadcast live on WAAV, 980 AM, and on the Learning Network by UNCW-TV on Time Warner Cable Channel 5 and Charter Cable 12. The Council of Neighborhood Associations, Inc. is a non-profit, grassroots coalition of neighborhoods dedicated to the improvement of the quality of life in New Hanover County through citizen involvement and participation in local government.
