Wilmington, N.C. - Robert McInturf has been named director of alumni relations at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
He will be responsible for the management of the alumni office and will coordinate educational, service and social activities for the UNC Wilmington Alumni Association, which has about 42,000 members. Before accepting the position at UNCW, McInturf was the director of alumni affairs at the University of West Alabama.
"We are pleased to welcome Rob McInturf to UNCW. He has been very successful in working with alumni volunteers to develop, promote and manage chapters and clubs, affinity programs, special events and other alumni activities, said Mary Gornto, vice chancellor for university advancement. "He will help our Alumni Association strengthen its efforts to involve all alumni in the life of the university."
At West Alabama, McInturf devised and implemented an integrated marketing and communication plan for the university's National Alumni Association that increased membership by more than 400 percent and doubled the number of active alumni chapters.
His previous experience includes serving as interim director of marketing and communication and assistant to the president at West Alabama. McInturf holds a master's degree in advertising and public relations from the University of Alabama and a bachelor's degree in history from West Alabama.
"I look forward to working with UNCW's dedicated alumni to enhance the programs and services that connect them to the university, and to create new traditions for celebrating their alma mater and its continued success," McInturf said.
Gornto expressed appreciation to the alumni director search committee, which was chaired by Associate Vice Chancellor Marla Rice-Evans and included campus and alumni representation.
