Acclaimed Poet Karen Volkman to Read at UNC Wilmington Feb. 18

Karen Volkman, acclaimed poet and visiting professor in the Department of Creative Writing at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, will read from her work at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 18 in Kenan Hall 1111.
The event is free and open to the public. A reception sponsored by the department and book signing sponsored by Pomegranate Books will follow the reading.
Volkman is the author of three books of poetry, Nomina (American Poets Continuum, 2008), Spar (University of Iowa Press, 2002) and Crash's Law (W.W. Norton, 1996). She is the recipient of the James Laughlin Award for poetry and the Iowa Poetry Prize, and her first book was selected for the National Poetry Series. She has received fellowships from the National Endowment of the Arts and the Poetry Society of America, among others. Her poems have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, including The Pushcart Prize Anthology, Best American Poetry, The Norton Introduction to Poetry and American Poets in the 21st Century: The New Poetics. Volkman received her B.A. from New College in Sarasota, Fla. and her M.A. from Syracuse University. She teaches in the Master of Fine Arts program at the University of Montana in Missoula and is currently a visiting professor of creative writing at UNCW.
