Evolution scholar Kenneth Miller will speak on "Darwin, God and Design: The Battle for America's Scientific Soul" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26 in the Warwick Center Ballroom on the campus of the University of North Carolina Wilmington. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Miller, professor of biology at Brown University, is being brought to UNC Wilmington by the university's Honors Scholars Program. He is a preeminent evolutionary scientist and the author of the most widely used high school biology textbook in America. He was an expert witness in the 2005 Dover, Pennsylvania, landmark case regarding the teaching of intelligent design in public school science classrooms, in which the teaching of intelligent design was ruled unconstitutional and barred from Pennsylvania's Middle District.

Miller is the author of the acclaimed book Finding Darwin's God: A Scientist's Search for Common Ground Between God and Evolution, a lively and cutting-edge analysis of the key issues that seem to divide science and religion. He contends that, properly understood, evolution adds depth and meaning not only to a strictly scientific view of the world, but also to a spiritual one.
