Charlotte executive Cynthia G. Marshall was named today to the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Appointed by the UNC Board of Governors, she will serve out the remaining term of Krista S. Tillman, which expires in 2011.
As president of AT&T North Carolina, Marshall is responsible for the company's regulatory, legislative and community affairs activities within the state. She has 27 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, having held a variety of line management and staff positions in operations, human resources, network engineering and planning, and regulatory/external affairs. She was named to her current position in January 2007.
She is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, where she earned degrees in business administration and human resources management. A strong believer in public education, Marshall serves on the General Assembly's Committee on Dropout Prevention, and she was recently appointed to the North Carolina New Schools Project Board of Directors. She is also deeply committed to advocacy for children in need of adoption or foster care support, serving as a board member for the North Carolina Children's Home Society and Wake County Human Services and Environmental Services.
Marshall and her husband, Kenneth, reside in Cary, N.C., and have two teenage children, Anthony and Shirley.
