Causes of the current economic collapse will be examined by former Federal Reserve Board senior official and University of North Carolina Wilmington Executive in Residence Tom Simpson at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 18 in Computer Information Systems Building room 1008.
Simpson, Cameron School of Business Department of Economics and Finance, will discuss the current economic and financial collapse in a historical context focused on the causes of the worst global economic crisis since the 1930s, the numerous federal policy actions to date and the outlook for the economy and the financial system. In his talk titled "The Ongoing Economic and Financial Crisis and Prospects for Recovery," Simpson will address the staggering rise in federal budget outlays and borrowing, and whether more initiatives will be necessary to restore stability.
The public should arrive early, as seats for the talk are limited.
Simpson, a national and international economics expert who has consulted for the central banks of Russia and Iraq, is available for live and taped interviews by request.
