UNC Wilmington to Unveil Fall 2009 Pathways Catalog Sept. 8; Wide Variety of Adult Education Opportunities Offered

Members of the local community can find a wide variety of adult education opportunities for the fall semester through the Pathways catalog, a listing of courses, special events, online offerings and travel adventures provided through UNC Wilmington's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). The fall 2009 catalog, available in printed and online versions, will be available Sept. 8.
"We truly have something to offer for everyone," said Amy Keith, OLLI coordinator in the Division for Public Service and Continuing Studies. "We have a speaker series, dinner and lunch programs, and courses on topics ranging from art history to marine science. Not only do participants find classes that interest them, but they meet people with similar interests through those classes who then become friends."
One of the best ways to learn about all the offerings in the 2009 Pathways catalog, Keith said, is to attend a free old-fashioned ice cream social and information session from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11. Participants can register for OLLI memberships and courses, win free programs on the half hour valued at $50, make new friends and renew acquaintances.
OLLI Lifelong Learner memberships are available for $20 per semester for $40 for the entire academic year. Membership benefits include discounts on all programs, invitations to members-only programs, Randall Library privileges and updates on special UNCW events.
UNCW's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is funded through grants from the Bernard Osher Foundation. The Osher Foundation supports a wide range of educational and cultural initiatives for lifelong learners that are open to all but focused on ages 50+. Since 2005, the foundation has awarded UNCW's OLLI program $1.25 million to continue to expand its programming.
