Madness, an 800-Person Picnic and More to Be at UNCW Family and Alumni Weekend

For the first time, the University of North Carolina Wilmington is uniting families and former students together for one festive weekend, Friday, Oct. 16 - Sunday, Oct. 18. Throughout Family and Alumni Weekend, the Seahawk community will celebrate UNCW with Midnite Madness, reunions, picnics, community service projects and more. Media are invited to cover all of the events below:

Friday, Oct. 16
8:30 p.m. Trask Trek

Trask Trek is the annual walk from the Seahawk Village Clubhouse to Trask Coliseum to celebrate Midnite Madness. Participants will be wearing spirited attire.

9:30 p.m. Midnite Madness
Midnite Madness, the longest-standing tradition at UNCW, marks the start of the basketball season. Each year, 3,000 frenzied Seahawk fans attend this pep rally-type event in Trask Coliseum that includes student games and contests, spirit group performances, shooting contests, a "fan jam" festival and more.

Saturday, Oct.17
10:30 a.m. Golden Wing Society Alumni Reunion

Thirty-five Wilmington College graduates from the classes of 1949-59 will reunite for brunch to reminisce about the old days. A trolley tour of campus will be at noon.

Noon, UNCW Family Picnic
Around 800 members of the Seahawk family will gather to enjoy food and fun together on the Campus Commons near the Clocktower. Participants will have caricatures drawn, play a text message scavenger hunt and help assemble toiletry kits for the Good Shepherd Center.

2 p.m. UNCW Past, Present & Future talk with Ty Rowell
Rowell will offer a glimpse into UNCW's past from the founding of Wilmington College to becoming one of the top institutions in the Southeast. The event will be in Lumina Theater, Fisher Student Center.

4 p.m. Legacy Pinning Ceremony
This formal pinning ceremony will celebrate 75 people who have made UNCW a tradition by having more than one family member attend the university. The event will be in the Burney Center.
