Hundreds of costumed University of North Carolina Wilmington volunteers will provide a secure trick-or-treat experience for more than 300 at-risk children at the 13th annual Family Halloween Carnival 5:30 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28 in the Warwick Center.
UNCW student organizations will facilitate an indoor haunted house, spooky games and crafts, and will dole out candy to costumed children who may not normally have access to safe trick-or-treating. Due to popular demand and limited resources, this event is closed to the general public.
Event sponsor UNCW Center for Leadership Education and Service (CLES) is partnering with several area community service organizations and after-school programs to bring in children from at-risk areas.
Media are invited to capture carnival preparation prior to the event (including event set-up beginning at 4 p.m.) and/or to go live from the carnival by request. Interviews with student event organizers and participants will be available.
