In tough economic times, students will compete with each other more than ever at the University of North Carolina Wilmington Internship and Job Fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28 in the Burney Center.
Students in business attire will be battling for face time with employers ranging from banks to public schools. Because of a 50 percent decline in recruiter attendance due to the recession, the education, liberal arts and business fairs are being merged into one event.
Leslie Wright of the UNCW Career Center said, "Many companies are simply not hiring right now or they don't have the budget to recruit at smaller schools like UNCW."
UNCW career counselors are doing more educational programs and outreach to students to help offset the stiff employment competition. They proactively network with employers and contact them for job openings. Wright said, "We are looking for more community members to step up and consider hiring a Seahawk."
Interested business owners can contact the center at 910.962.3174. Media are invited to gain hands-on footage and interviews at this event. Additional related statistics are available.
