Letterpress Exhibition Features Southern Artists in Cultural Arts Gallery

Pressing South, a juried exhibition of letterpress print work of original design from throughout the southeastern USA, will be on display in the Cultural Arts Building gallery Feb. 19 through March 27. The exhibit is sponsored by the UNCW Department of Art and Art History and Ned Irvine, assistant professor of studio art, is the curator. He specializes in graphic design.
The UNCW Publishing Laboratory is sponsoring the opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20 in the CAB gallery. Frank Brannon, the juror of the exhibition, will speak about his work on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. in room 2033 of the Cultural Arts Building. Both events are free and open to the public.
Brannon is a graduate of the M.F.A. in the Book Arts Program at the University of Alabama and is proprietor of SpeakEasy Press. The limited edition, letterpress books that he produces are held in several special collections libraries in the United States and England as well as with private collectors. Brannon teaches letterpress printing at the Penland School of Craft and the Asheville Bookworks.
