UNCW Presents' Ann Flack Boseman Gallery exhibits the work of child prodigy, world renowned artist and UNCW Isaac Bear student George Pocheptsov. The exhibit runs Aug. 5-27 and will feature oils, acrylics on canvas and sculpted canvases. A reception for the artist will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19 in the gallery, located on the second floor of the Fisher University Union. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

Pocheptsov was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1992 to Ukrainian parents. At 17 months old, he drew a remarkable replica of an antique car parked across the street. At an age where most children have barely graduated from finger painting, Pocheptsov was drawing jesters, pregnant women and four-headed giraffes, all in luminescent colors. He started to paint before he started to talk.

Completely self taught, Pocheptsov is often compared to a young Picasso or Chagall. He speaks Russian, Ukrainian and English and his paintings sell for up to $100,000. On an ordinary day, he is much like any teenage boy - playing video games with his friends or finishing a tough math assignment.

During the last eight years, he has been commissioned to do paintings for Colin Powell, Celine Dion, Michael Jordan and Alan Ducasse. He was tapped to create 3D paintings for the Camera Museum in London and for the United Nations 60th Anniversary Show. In 2007, he was invited to The World's Most Talented Kid in London, UK. He has been featured on television programs in England, France, Korea, South Africa, Holland, Russia, Japan and the Ukraine. The documentary film about him, Brush with Destiny, won an Emmy. Most recently, he created the official commemorative art for the 62nd Annual North Carolina Azalea Festival.
