Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award Nominations for the Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award are due by March 1. For additional information about the summary of the process, criteria for nominating an individual for this award, and a list of the previous recipients, see www.uncw.edu/aa/DistinguishedFacultyScholarAward.html.
Hoggard Medal for Achievement Award Nominations are being sought for the Hoggard Medal for Achievement. This medal, presented through the generosity of the late John T. Hoggard, is awarded annually to the graduating senior who, in the opinion of the faculty, has shown the most improvement during his or her years at the university. This honor is given in recognition of hard and honest endeavor which has resulted in great self-improvement. All seniors graduating in both August and December 2009 and May 2010 are eligible for nomination.
Please consider not just improvements in GPA. The student may have faced and overcome, or succeeded despite, some adversity, academic or personal, or may have matured significantly, progressing from a weak, lackadaisical or a minimally engaged student to an active, successful one. Those who wish to nominate a student, please submit a letter of nomination stating why the nominee should receive this award.
Nominations should be sent to the Office of Academic Affairs by Thursday, March 11. An anonymous committee of the faculty, representing the College and the Schools, will review all nominations and select the student who, in their opinion, best fits the criteria for the award as stated in the 2009-2010 Undergraduate Catalogue, p. 92. The recipient will be announced at a special awards ceremony the day before spring commencement.
